User interface idea: Registering for Websites
I hate when you're registering for a new site and it requires you to go back to your email account, find the welcome email, and click the confirmation link. It screws up the flow of registering and I would be willing to bet that it's a major roadblock for sites looking to register people.
So, why don't sites just ask you for your email account and password? The sites can then go and try to log into your email account. If successful, then they know that you are, indeed, the owner of the valid email account that you say you are the owner of, which is the whole point of confirmation links anyway.
